Overcoming boundaries to exercise and activity
The Active8 programme is a new project starting in September 2019 that aims to improve physical and mental health of the people in the Forth Valley area through the use of sport and physical activity while maintaining a focus on fun.
The project aims to provide the public of Forth Valley with a chance to improve their quality of their life through an introduction of enjoyable sports and activities, in addition we will ensure that each participant has a support network of similar peers to encourage and motivate though a 12-week program.
The Active8 program was created through a desire to motive and inspire adults within the Forth Valley Area to become more active in their day to day life.
Exercise is one of the best ways to improve not only your physical health but also your mental state of mind. By enhancing your personal fitness levels, you can decrease the risks of health problems relating to depression, anxiety, heart problems, and cancer.
NHS Forth Valley reported that more than 6,000* adults in Forth Valley are overweight which this program aims to play a part in addressing. The most recent Scottish Government reports outline that 65% of the public in Scotland over the age of 16 were overweight and a further 29% were seen as obese*. Active8 is a project that aims to reduce these statistics in the Forth Valley area initially, targeting both men and women aged 16 and above and help play a part in addressing this while having fun.

We believe that there is an activity for everyone out there. Whether it be dancing, football, hill walking, swimming or athletics. We want to give you the chance to try new activities and sports at an introductory level to find something that can give you that sense of enjoyment while knowing you are working towards creating a better and more active lifestyle for yourself while being supported by a group of like-minded people to help you improve your own quality of life. Additionally, participants in the project will be provided with a knowledge base that will help in relation to dietary and lifestyle choices going forward.
The project will consist of 4 groups as listed below, however clients may qualify for more than one group and will have the choice of which group they would like to participate.
We are now taking preregistration for our 12 week Active8 programme, which is being run mid-September to November 2019.
